the archetype of a queen

the soft rebellion of becoming

An archetype is to the psyche what the body is to the mind. Archetypes, whether we embody them ourselves or recognize them in others, can awaken energies that help us move beyond conditioning, heal, and connect more fully to ourselves, the world, and our shared humanity.

I’ll be the first to admit, letting myself be seen is something I’ve struggled with most of my life. When I share that, people are often surprised. After all, I work as a consultant, collaborating with executives around the globe and creatives from all walks of life. Make no mistake, I’ve had to hone the art of being social.

But as a highly sensitive child, I was painfully shy. And being multi-racial meant I rarely saw faces that looked like mine. Sure, I had plenty of friends, but I often carried a quiet, persistent sense of not fully belonging.

Adorning oneself or stepping into an archetype, be it hero, warrior, king, or queen, can be dismissed as playacting. And sometimes, it is. But for me, embodying the archetype of a queen is a reclamation. It’s about showing up fully and unapologetically. Letting go of what others think. Giving myself permission to celebrate, honor, and embrace all of me: my gifts, my lineage, my imperfections, my quirks, and even the parts I once deemed unlovable.

In many ways, this has translated into a deeper sense of ease, a quiet confidence that invites me to share my writing more openly, explore my creativity without restraint, and express my gifts without apology. It’s not about becoming someone else, but rather, becoming more fully myself. The crown, I’ve come to learn, was never something to be earned. It’s something that lives in each of us, waiting to be remembered.

Questions to carry with you:

· What archetype, or inner truth, feels alive in you right now?

· What parts of you have been cast aside that you’re now ready to reclaim?

· What story about yourself are you ready to rewrite?

· If you stopped caring what others think, what version of yourself might emerge?
